Really nice design. I really like the design of the body. You did a very nice job piecing the legs and wings on where it looks seamless. I'm really liking the red one more than the blue. The blue one looks more like a unicorn to me. As for scissors, I wouldn't worry so much about trying to perfect a design without using them. Sometimes it's necessary to use them. Traditional origami in Japan actually uses scissors and odd shapes of paper to do their folding. It wasn't until modern times that origami was given the 'rule' that there must not be any cuts involved and that you must use a square piece of paper. Think of it as you're keeping the traditional methods alive.
